Track Name: greener postures
pincince said “a pastor had died”, night before last
“there hundreds wrapped around the block awaiting his wake”
a final service had yet to be set - the date was unclear
but my noble newsman assures me that the day will appear
as recent as tomorrow will become, eventually

halfway through the day, the lines barely changed
starving souls of praise, blending in to be saved

i guess i’m just hollow ‘cause i couldn’t help but smile
at the thought of a still-host greeting guests…
quite the gloomy dinner party

under-dressed for overcast, i found myself inside at last
as the thunder had a laugh, i stood behind a man in black
just then my informant walks in, brushing the rain away from his hat

avoiding all contact
i made my way gallantly to the front of the room with ease
among the vagabonds trying to find permanent reprieve
upon a considerate knee considering what had come over me
i got up, and whisked myself outside to find an honest breeze
Track Name: elijah tiger
he asked me in passing, “how are you today?”
i simply shook my head, and replied ‘it’s the same old city’
stopping abruptly, standing like the sun on a bay
the passerby offered as he said: “what’s so wrong with stability?”

walking through what seems to be mother nature and her personal agenda against me

she called me “john” - though that was never my name
i considered becoming corrective, and settled on being nothing

staring at a void in the storm, where clouds withdraw from all form
swelling a chest toward the moon, crowing “one of us will burn out soon”
Track Name: twilight zoning out
last night i traveled clear into times square
and as i arrived i realized that i was a ghost
sleep-walking toward the infinite

suddenly a figure appeared
cloaked in smoke & dressed in white
as i pondered ‘is this the end?’

have i wasted time recalling dreams that i’ve longed to forget
rather than soaking in the days i wish would never cease
it was there where i felt a sense of loss
is it all worth while if it’s gone?
